Supporting Our Community’s Events
Off-site events we actively support
For over a century, Empire Mine has been an essential part of our local prosperity. It still is today, as we support our community in colorful, new ways. Mining machinery in action, gold panning, blacksmiths, and docents in costume bring our hard-rock gold mining history to life at major community events.
Annual 4th of July Parade
Every year is unique, yet our patriotic spirit remains evident. Our docents go all out to portray the unforgettable characters who shaped our history. Often dressed as the prominent Bourns, the Starrs, or other popular people from the past, they wave to the crowds that line the streets, as their vintage car passes treasured local landmarks. Cheers, stars and stripes make the parade a memorable event.
Nevada County Fair
For five spellbinding days each August, Grass Valley’s award-winning Fair Grounds host the Nevada County Fair. Thousands of visitors enjoy an up-close-and-personal look at what makes our County unique. The picture wouldn’t be complete without Empire Mine State Historic Park’s popular booth.
Answering questions about our flamboyant past is always engaging – and visitors like to hear about the entrepreneurs, the risk-takers, the visionaries, and the workers who painted our history with pride.
Visit our booth, and get to know about our lively past – as well as the people who safeguard its future – our dedicated docents.
